This is the Western lineage coming down from the Dr Usui – Dr Hayashi – Mrs Hawayo Takata and her 22 direct students.

Mrs Takata, an American lady of Japanese origin, who lived in Hawaii, USA, in the late 1930s, learnt Reiki from Dr Hayashi. From 1938 onwards, she was responsible for bringing Reiki to the West. She trained 22 students to the masters level, (till she passed over in 1980) who, themselves were responsible for spreading her teachings to the Western world.

My lineage comes down through Mrs Takata - Iris Ishikura - Arthur Robertson - Diane McCumber - William Lee Rand - Dr Allan Sweeney - ourselves. ( William Lee Rand also trained with two other Western Reiki Masters, Marlene Schilke & Leah Smith, whose lineages can be traced back to Mrs Takata. )

Why have I chosen to teach levels one and two levels together?

By teaching levels one and two together has proven to create the greatest benefit and there have never been any problems that have developed by teaching them together. Remember, that Reiki can only do good and will never cause harm! Also by teaching them together as we do, the student practitioners receive the second degree symbols right away and can start using them to heal them selves more deeply and to help others with their stronger Reiki and through distant healing.

It should be noted that Dr. Usui taught the complete system of Reiki as one level, passing it on to others exactly how he have received it. Dr. Hayashi broke the system up into the present levels that are taught today. Mrs Takata occasionally taught levels one and two together, sometimes in the same day. The idea that there should be a time gap between levels is a new idea that has emerged in the Reiki world and some have decided to make this into a rigid rule. It is not based on how Dr. Usui or even on how Mrs Takata taught Reiki.     

The course structure comprises four levels :

Levels One & Two Combined for Practitioners : Two days.
